thursday matinee: The First Wave

Following the outbreak of an aggressive virus, a young woman awakes in a hospital bed. As the horrifying events that led her there are revealed, it becomes clear that the cure is just the beginning.

“The First Wave” — David Freyne

This week on Thursday Matinee we’re featuring the short The First Wave. Just when you thought there were no longer any interesting angles in the zombie genre, David Freyne and the crew at Tiltled Pictures offer an interesting new perspective by focusing on the psychological effects of the aftermath of the outbreak.

Clocking in at just under seven minutes, the short acts as a prequel for a planned feature film titled The Third Wave which was awarded the Best Story Pitch award at the Edinburgh Film Festival, June 2012. The Third Wave is currently being developed with support from the Irish Film Board. Get in on the ground floor of this chilling tale while you grab a quick work lunch this week on theĀ Thursday Matinee.
