“Alma”—Written and directed by Rodrigo Blaas
For this week’s feature on Thursday Matinee is a piece that was created in 2009, according to IMDb, and focuses on a girl that becomes curious about a doll in a shop. It’s a creepy but beautifully done short that steadily builds to its climax. It’s the type of progression that leaves you on the edge of your seat without pushing you over. The music provides a nice counter to the animation, and keeps things from getting too heavy. If I’ve learned one thing in life, it’s to never trust dolls. Ever. After about five minutes of your time, you’ll have another reason to think so, too.
